What is Google PageRank?

Google PageRank, a link analysis algorithm, reflects the importance of web pages by ranking from 0-10 (10 being the highest). According to Google, the higher the PageRank – the more trusted the site. That means, links from these sites are also highly trusted. Web pages with a higher PageRank are more likely to appear at the top of the search results.

History

PageRank was developed by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, as part of a research on a new kind search engine, at Stanford University. It took about 3 years and the project is named after Larry Page. The name “PageRank” is trademarked by Google and the patent of the process is assigned to Stanford University.

How to get a high Google PageRank?

The most effective way to build a PageRank is to write quality content! Google likes Quality content a lot. This is another reason behind the saying “Content is the King!”

Another way to build a high PageRank is to concentrate on the incoming and outgoing links. Every link that comes into your site (linkback, trackback, backlink) weighs heavily on Google PageRank. Links from other sites having high PageRank has more value than the incoming links from a site with no PageRank. Google likes to have quality content with a lot of pages, more incoming links and internal links to get a high PageRank.
